Topwater Fishing For Bass

Topwater fising is a very popular way of fishing for largemouth bass. This is most efective early in the morning and late in the day or at night , when fish are in heavy cover. Anglers use a variety of baits for topwater fishing ,such as stickbaits , propbaits , chuggers , crawlers , buzzbaits , and frogs .

Stickbaits are long , thin plugs with no built-in action .They can be weighted in the tail to give them some side to side action.

Propbaits look like stickbaits , except they have a propeller on one or both ends. They are normally fished with twitches followed by pauses.

Chuggers have a flat or concave face that throws water when you jerk them . They are retrieved with a series of rapid twitches .

Crawlers have a broad face plate or arms that make it wobble or crawl . A slow steady retreive works best with crawlers .

Buzzbaits have a large blade that throws a lot of water . They work best with slow steady retrieve ,if you stop reeling they will sink .

Frogs and rats are made of soft rubber or plastic . They are the best choice for fishing heavy weeds .
