Using Soft Plastics For Smallmouth

You can buy soft plastic baits that are almost perfect imitations of smallmouths favorite foods . These baits can be Texas-rigged for fishing in heavy cover , or Carolina-rigged for fishing clear bottoms . A few good choices are crayfish , lizards ,and leeches . Although you will get plenty of strikes on plastic worms as well . The preferred sizes of worms are from 4 to 6 inches long .

In recent years , tube baits have emerged as one of the top smallmouth lures . Their slim profile and wiggling tentacles seem to be just what the fish want . You can put it on a jig head for fishing deep waters , or fish it unweighted on a weedless HP hook .
